About Margaret "Peggy" Hedrick
Peggy Orr Hedrick's parents were William Orr and Catherine Smith Orr, who emigrated from Pennsylvania to Fleming County, Kentucky. William Orr was the son of William Orr (SR) who came from County Clare, Ireland.
Catherine Smith was the daughter of Widow Catherine (and Peter) Smith of White Deer Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. Widow Catherine raised 10 children on her own after Peter's death in 1773, and was an integral supporter of the Revolution with her grist mill, sawmill, hemp and weapons mills. A geographic marker on the eastern culmination of the Nittany Mountains honors her with a portion of a mountain named "Catherine's Crown". Her grave was originally in the "Old Settler's Graveyard" near her home. Years later, her grave was disturbed by a farmer building a sheep pen. Her remains were moved to a site unknown.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: May 21 2022, 15:49:41 UTC
