About Margaret Lenora Moody
In the 1860 U.S. Federal Census for Payson, Utah, Margaret was listed as Lenora, 6 months old, and was living with her mother, Ann (Webb) Pace, 26, sister Emma, 4, and brother James Orlando Pace, 2 years old. Margaret's father, James Edward Pace, 49, a Mormon polygamist, was living next door with his first wife, Lucinda Gibson (Strickland) Pace, 54, and children John Ezra, 15, and Amanda Lucinda, 10, and a plural wife, Margaret (Calhoun) Pace, 35, and her children, James Wilkerson Pace, 8, Willard, 4, and Wilford Woodruff Pace, 2 years old. I found no 1870 census record showing Margaret Lenora Pace.
In 1878 Margaret married John Monroe Moody, who was 38 years her senior, and also a Mormon polygamist. In the 1880 census Margaret was 20 years old and John was 58 years old, and they were living in Saint George, Washington County, Utah, with their son James Monroe Moody who was 4 months old. James was born January 27, 1880, in Saint George, Utah. Sadly, his father, John, died just 4 years later on January 27, 1884, in Thatcher, Arizona, where they had moved from Utah between 1880 1881.
By the 1900 U.S. Federal Census for Harmony, Washington County, Utah, Margaret was living with Levi Benjamin Pace who was her first cousin once removed, since her father, James Pace, Jr.'s brother, William Franklin Pace, had a son named Harvey Alexander Pace, and Levi was Harvey's son. In the census record Margaret was 40 years old and was listed as the "sister" of Levi who was 29 years old. Levi was working as a farm laborer.
In 1910 Margaret was living in Thatcher, Graham County, Arizona, with her daughter, Mary Ann, 28, who had married Edwin Carpenter, 32, and living with them were their children Thelma, 8, Norman, 6, James, 4, and Phillip, 1 year old. Margaret was 50 years old.
By the 1920 census, Margaret was living in Thatcher with her eldest son, James Monroe Moody, 39, and his wife Sarah Ella (Bingham) Moody, 40 years old. James and Sarah were married May 12, 1903, in Graham County, Arizona. James was working as a farmer. Margaret died just 3 years later at the age of 63, and was buried in the Thatcher Cemetery.
