Feazel Family Civil War Veterans Of Louisiana
All grandchildren of George and Margaret (Pear) Feazel, pioneer settlers of Union Parish, Louisiana. More commonly known in the south as the War for Southern independence, this was certainly the most trying time in the history of the United States since our war for Independence from Britain in 1776. While the issue of slavery was one of debate prior to 1861, it was but one of many topics of debate between the northern exporters and the primarily agricultural south, who was at that time producing nearly 80 percent of the world supply of cotton. Many book have been written about the causes and effects of this war and I will defer my opinions to those who have studied the subject more closely than I.
This page is simply a place for my cousins and descendants behind me to glean a little bit of history.
More than 650,000 dedicated soldiers from both sides were either killed or wounded between the first shots fired at Fort Sumter SC in the spring of 1861 to the surrender at Appomattox in April of 1865. For the South, there would be no compromise. Few families throughout the United States paid more dearly in terms of loss of human life than did the Feazel Families of Union Parish Louisiana, all grandsons of George and Margaret Pear Feazel, from Civil War records of
