PAXTON RECORD, Thursday, April 3, 1952:
Mrs. Oliver Stevenson, 74, died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. B. Van Cleve of Yorkville, where she had been visiting for the past six weeks.
Mrs. Stevenson has been in ill health for some time but became seriously ill shortly after going to her daughter's home.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Hilmar Lutheran church of Hilmar, Ill., on Friday, April 4. The Rev. Myrvin L. Holmberg, pastor of the Paxton First Lutheran church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot.
Margaret Sable was born January 5, 1878 in Norway and came to the United States when she was about 15 years old. She came to Yorkville, Ill., where she was married in March, 1896 to Oliver Stevenson. They resided at Yorkville until 1918 when they moved to a farm south of Paxton. Mr. Stevenson passed away in 1925. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Stevenson continue to reside on the farm with her son, Arthur, and family.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Hattie Van Cleve of Yorkville, Mrs. Bernice Roseen of Moline, Mrs. Helen Battenschlag of Aurora, Mrs. Edith Menze of Lombard; five sons, Arthur and Thomas of Paxton, Henry of Menomonie, Wis., Howard of Whiting and Orville of Joliet; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and one brother, Tom Sable of Maddock, N. Dak.
One son, Lyle, preceded her in death in 1935.
Mrs. Stevenson was a member of the First Lutheran church of Paxton and was confirmed while she was still living in Norway.
