Family

Margaret Stewart appears to have been the relict of (Thomas) Meldrum of Eden when she married James Gordon of Lesmois, married to him before 1521 and living in 1541.

Margaret married James GORDON 1st of Lesmoir, son of George GORDON of Tillytarmont and Isabel INNES.1 (James GORDON 1st of Lesmoir was born about 1480 and died in 1558 1.)

The forsaid James Gordon first Laird of Lesmoir married two Ladies, his first was a daughter of Patrick Stuart of Lethers: Lady Eden, with whom he begat Six Sons and three daughters, viz,

• his eldest Son George Gordon 2d Laird of Lesmoir,
• his second Son James Gordon of Crichie,
• 3 d Son Alexander Gordon of Birkenburn,
• fourth son Mr William Gordon of Terpersie,
• fifth son Patrick Gordon of Oxhill, and
• the Sixth Son John Gordon of Licheston.

The said James married to his second Lady the Laird of Findlaters daughter Ogilvy Lady Gartlie, whom he begat two Sons,

• Hary Gordon of Dilespro or Savach, and
• Thomas Gordon of Drumbuilg.

Anne Stewart married James Gordon, 1st of Lesmoir, son of George Gordon and unknown Innes.1 Her married name became Gordon.1

The Gordons of Terpersie were descended from Jock of Scurdargue by his spouse, Elizabeth Maitland : Jock lived from say 1380-1460: their 2nd son, William in TiUytarmont, who lived say 1424-1484, married a sister of Sir John Rutherford : their eldest son was George in Tillytarmont, who lived say 1450-1500, married Isobel, daughter of Beroald limes of Meilliers : and their 2nd son was James Gordon, first of Lesmoir, who lived say 1475-1557 I he married, 1st, Margaret, daughter of Patrick Stewart of Laithers, relict of Meldrum of Eden : 2ndly, about 1546, Margaret, daughter of Alexander Ogilvy of Deskford, Finlater and Ogilvy, relict of Barclay of Gartly.
