Margaret Whitehead (Dewhirst) 1820-by 1891?
Margaret Whitehead, born in 1820, was the wife of William Dewhirst, a tailor. They were married on 28 February 1839 at the parish church in Keighley and their address was Wellington Street, Keighley. At that time Margaret was a weaver. Their marriage was witnessed by Joseph Lambert and Joseph Arnold. Margaret’s father, Robert was a stone mason. In the 1841 census William and Mary are at Wellington Street and their first child, Abraham, is 8 months old. In 1851 she and William were tailors living in Adelaide Street, Keighley. William died before 1861 at which point Margaret was head of the household of seven children and a dress maker. In 1871 she was at 10 Oakworth Road, Keighley with four of her sons John (24) moulder, Joseph Robson (18) tailor, Robert (16) mill hand and James Henry (12) mill hand and seven lodgers. In 1881 aged 60 she was living at 17 Adelaide Street, Keighley with her youngest son, James Henry (22) who was a stone mason, and two boarders. She died aged 63 between July and September of 1883.
