Joseph-2 Willcockson (William-1), born circa 1635; died before 1684; married Anna-2 [Mitchell], probably the daughter of Thomas-1 Mitchell of New Haven by his unknown first wife (George E. McCracken, "The Connecticut Willcocksons," The American Genealogist [Volume 59:37-41; January 1983]; N. Grier Parke II [Compiler] and Donald Lines Jacobus [Editor], The Ancestry of Rev. Nathan Grier Parke & his wife Ann Elizabeth Gildersleeve, [Woodstock, Vermont]; 1959; 84-88).
Joseph's wife is often incorrectly identified as Anna-3 Sheather, daughter of John-2 and Elizabeth (Wellman) Sheather, when in fact, Anna-3 Sheather married Joseph Willcockson's son, John-3 Willcockson. This error can be traced to any anonymous note in The Hartford Times in answer to Query 5106 (1) B.M.S., 18 August 1939 (McCracken).
