Margret Elizabeth "Maggie", a first generation Texan, was born in Caldwell County to Susanna (West) and Gaines Bailey Smith. Maggie's siblings were William, Elizabeth Jane, Solomon, Wesley Lee. On December 21, 1881, Maggie married Lucius Newton "Newt" Moses. Newt was the step-son of George Miller Crowell, and the son of Mary Tabitha (Eskew) [Moses] Crowell. Newt's father was Dr. D.C.A. Moses who died during the Civil War. Maggie and Newt's children were William Henry Moses, Lily Viola "Ola" (Moses) Biggs, and Mamie Lee (Moses) Baggett. Family lore has it that Maggie died soon after the birth of twins born to her sister, Elizabeth Jane (Smith) Moses. They did not live, so it is believed that the twins were buried in the grave with Maggie. They were the children of Edward Ira and Elizabeth Jane (Smith) Moses. Margret Elizabeth and Elizabeth Jane married brothers.
