About Maria Amelia Allen
"Maria married Dr James Allen early in 1842 (?). Allen had been the surgeon at the Flinders Island settlement from January 1834 to October 1837. Later he was for a time at the Goulburn River aboriginal station in Victoria, but left there in December 1844 following an enquiry into an alleged attempt to cut his wife's throat. The Allens later returned to the straits and settled on Clarke Island, where, Allen was drowned in a boat accident on 9th September 1856. they had ten children" taken from 'Friendly Mission', by Plomley
