About Maria Potocka
Countess Maria Tarnowska was born on March 24, 1904 in Tarnobrzeg, on Jan. 8th, 1930 she married Count Arthur Anthony Potocki. After the death of her husband, on January 14, 1956, she entered the Benedictine monastery at that time she was in Royston, where on the day of this investment she took the name Maria-Dismas.
In Belgrade and Malinska there was mentioned one Polish countess Maria Tarnowska Potocka, who helped the Polish Jews, with the help of the Franciscan monk Athanasius Dydek, and the military chaplain, the Italian priest Giancarlo Centioni. Countess Maria Tarnowska, between 1943 and 1944, was the head of the Polish community on the island of Krk (today Krk island in Croatia), Malinska, and helped a Catholic priest, Don Giancarlo Centioni, to save Croatian Jews, provided them with the necessary documents. Countess Potocka also was helped by an official of the Fiume Police Station, Giovanni Palatucci, head of the Foreign Office.
- After WWII Maria Tarnowska-Potocka joined the Benedictine Convent at Royston (England) where on the day of her investiture she took the name of sister Maria Dismas.
