About Mariah Ann Cronkrite Davis
Mariah was the daughter of James Whitis Bullock (1788-1859) and Nancy (Horton) Bullock. Her father fought under General Andrew Jackson in Indian campaigns and in the battle of New Orleans on January 8, 1815. Later he moved to Texas he applied for, and was granted, land patents in Texas by the Mexican government. Her uncle Alexander Horton served with General Sam Houston during the Texas Revolution during the Battle of San Jacinto, 1836, later serving as sheriff and mayor of San Augustine, Texas, and serving in the Texas Legislature.
Mariah reportedly was married briefly to a Mr. Lane. She then married John Cronkrite on November 23, 1841, at San Augustine. They had two children, Albert and Eliza. It's said that John died about 1847 in Fayette County and afterward about 1849 Mariah married Mr. Allen Davis. Mariah is buried at the Lower Chireno Cemetery, Nacogdoches County, Texas. The Lower Chireno Cemetery is said to be located on Lower cemetery road off FM 95 (FM stands for Farm to Market Road) south of Chireno, Texas.
