Marie-Catherine Bégin

Born on September 11, 1740 in Lauzon, Levis, Canada. Married Jean Baptiste Carrier on January 10, 1764 in Lauzon.(See Note 1) Had eight children all of whom were born in Lauzon Jean Baptiste born in 1765-1830 (See Note 2); IGNACE, 1766; Catherine, 1769-1845; Marie Louise, 1771-1811; Genevieve, 1773-1776; Agathe Angelique, 1775-1831 (See Note 2); Joseph, 1778-1787; and Charles,1780-1810. Died in Lauzon on August 17, 1822.

Research Notes:

1.They were married by Father Charles d'Youville Dufrost, He was the son of Saint Marguerite d'Youville, 1701-1771. She was the founder of the Sisters of Charity, "the Grey Nuns of Canada". Canonized by John Paul 11 in 1990. She was the first native Canadian to be elevated to sainthood.

2.It appears that Jean Baptiste and Agathe Angelique never married because in their respective death record his parents are mentioned rather than a spouse. Moreover, Jean Baptiste's death record is puzzling in that his age is given as 50 and he would have been 65.

3.Catherine's parents were Jacques Begin and Genevieve Charlotte Rochon-Rocheron. They were married on June 15,1722 in Lauzon.
