WINTER HAVEN- Mrs. Marie Balliet Flanagan died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 due to heart failure at age 89 .
She represented the Lutheran Church in the U.S. Government Inter-Agency Task Force at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania Refugee Camp until it closed, and then Directed Refugee Resettlement Services at Tressler-Lutheran Services covering the State of Pennsylvania until retirement in 1984. She served on the Governor's Refugee Advisory Board and as Regional Consultant for Pennsylvania and part of West Virginia. Prior to her work with refugees, she had been the Community Representative for Barnett Banks.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Winter Haven where she served two terms as an Elder and directed the Stephen Ministry Program.
She is survived by two daughters, Deede Adkins of Sorrento, Florida, and Dru Flanagan, of Haines City, Florida; Grandsons Glenn Hancock of Adams, New York, Michael Hancock of Dectur, Alabma, and four Great Grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Avenue C. and Fourth St. SE, Winter Haven, Florida, at 11AM on Dec. 5, 2011.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
