About Marie Hunt

According to The Buchner Book, Marie was the daughter of Susan Buckner & Thomas Bernard, but evidence is lacking. Mother of Deborah Ferrers who married John Buckner.

She was the daughter of Mr. Bernard, and had by her two sons, Thomas and John ; and four daughters, Mary, Elizabeth, Nathany, and Deborah. He departed this life the 11th of March 1646, being then lord of Fingest manor, who was very godly, and truly loving to his wife and children. Putting together other marriage records etc., her mother's name maiden was Mary Bernard, who later married Andrew Hunt.[3] It should also be noted that the Ferrers family was alias Turner, that is, they changed it from Turner to Ferrers at some point.

Mary Bernard first married Thomas Ferrers alias Turner, and after his death she remarried to Andrew Hunt (of West Wycombe, Bucks.) in Fingest Parish, Bucks. on 9 Jan 1653. Her son Thomas Ferrers alias Turner (also spelled "Ferres") married Andrew Hunt's daughter Mary in the same parish on 19 Nov 1656 (the same marriage was recorded in High Wycombe on 17 Nov). The other son John married Mary Gibbons, daughter of John Gibbons of High Wycombe on 10 Jan 1655.[1]

Her first husband, Thomas Ferrer's, epitaph indicates that her father was a "Mr. Bernard."[2]

Her birth year given above is a speculative estimate.

Disputed Origins

Some internet sources state, without evidence, that her mother was "Sharon" Buckner. Obviously, the name "Sharon" is quite unusual, perhaps unprecedented in the context of 17th century England, so this claim should be treated as highly suspect. Jim White's Buckner Book states, also without evidence, that her father was Thomas Bernard and mother Susan Buckner.[3] White is known to fabricate records regularly, so with no cited sources provided, his claims should be discounted.
