Marie Mason

Mrs. Marie Mason, widow of Muncie physician Dr. Lester R. Mason, died Thursday morning at Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis.

Mrs. Mason, who had resided in the Green Apartments at 701 Wheeling Ave., entered Ball Hospital last November. She had been at Robert Long Hospital for a week.

She was the daughter of John and Josephine Borden Canfield, early Muncie residents and had spent most of her life here. She was a Central High School graduate and had attended Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. At one time she taught home economics courses in Muncie city schools and for a time was manager of the Central High School cafeteria.

Mrs. Mason belonged to First Universalist Church, the Marie Gray Sewing Circle, the Hospital Auxiliary and the Monday Afternoon Club.

Surviving are a son, Richard C. Mason, of New Brunswick, N.J., a Merck Drug Co. researcher; two sisters, Mrs. Robert M. Morgan of San Gabriel, Calif., and Miss Maude Canfield of Indianapolis; a brother, Gerald l. Canfield of Indianapolis; and a granddaughter, Jane Ann Mason.

Dr. Mason died here in July 1951. Another brother, Shirley Canfield, died at Summitville more than a year ago.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Meeks Mortuary with the Rev. Russell Lockwood of First Universalist Church officiating. Entombment will be at Elm Ridge Mausoleum.
