Marie was the second to the youngest and came from a large family of 12 children. At the age of 20, she left Nakskov, Denmark, to join one of her brothers, Alfred Andreasen, in Helena, Montana. Alfred had come from Denmark a year earlier and was Marie's sponsor to the United States. She worked as a Nanny for the Lang family, a wealthy family in Helena, who stated the Lang Stove business. When the Lang's moved their business to Seattle, Washington, Marie went along and continued her Nanny job for the Lang children. Marie met Henrik in Seattle and were later married in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She then returned to Fjortoft island, Norway, with Henrik where she gave birth to Hertha and William. She later immigrated back to the United States with her family residing first in the in Seattle/Ballard area of Washington, where she gave birth to Hank, and later moved to Fernadale, Washington, where she owned and operated a dairy farm, while her husband, Henrik, continued to run his commercial fishing business.
