Biography of Pierre and Rosalie Blanchard Melanson Pierre was born September 4, 1710 and baptized the same day at Grand Pre, Acadia. He was the 2nd son of Jean and Marguerite. He was married to Rosalie Blanchard in Grand Pre on June 8, 1734. Rosalie was born at Mines, Acadia about 1714 to Rene Blanchard and Marie Francois Leblanc. Both Pierre and Rosalie were natives and residents of St-Charles-aux-Mines parish. Pierre was a farmer in the fertile land of Minas Basin. He and Rosalie had four sons and four daughters. They were living there when the Deportation of the Acadians began in 1755. During the Expulsion, Pierre and his family were among the 450 Acadians boarded onto three ships at Mines which arrived at Pennsylvania, November 18, 1755. He was one of the twenty French Neutrals at Philadelphia who petitioned the Governor on 21 September 1756 to be given transport to their own country or a place with their own countrymen. Otherwise, they asked to be treated as prisoners of war and thereby receive the sustenance accorded to such prisoners. In answer, the governor directed that they be treated as subjects of Great Britain, not as prisoners of war. He ordered that they be generallydispersed and settled. Some Acadian children were separated from their families and placed out with English families. To this the Acadians took great exception. Pierre was one of the 17 French Neutrals, representing the whole, at Philadelphia who petitioned the Assembly of Pennsylvania, February 8, 1757, for the return of their children. They felt they were prisoners and asked to leave the province. Pierre and his wife Rosalie, died in Pennsylvania. Their seven orphaned children with Marie-Blanche, as the head of the family, appeared on the 20 June 1763 list of Acadians in Pennsylvania. They were sent to Louisiana. Their oldest child, Jean-Pierre, was not deported to Pennsylvania with the family.
