About Marie Louise Smith
My mom was a housewife for most of our childhood. She finally got a full-time job at Lykes Steamship Company located on Poydras Street in Downtown, New Orleans. We lived on Burgundy Street when I (Rachel was born), then moved to 1934 St. Roch Street, then moved to 2114 Marais Street, which was right next door to my Grandmother, May Bergeron. After mom got her job with Lykes, we later moved to 57550 Pichon Road in Slidell, Louisiana. My dad would drive my mom to work every morning and then he would go to work at the Barber Shop on Morrison Road in New Orleans East...
Thinks I remember about mom:
She never drove a car when we were growing up. When we would go shopping Downtown (New Orleans) we would ride the bus (YES, the public service bus).
She once smoked cigarettes and she often said she would never quit. When she had her first heart attack, she was at Slidell Memorial Hospital with the Cigarette patches on her and still trying to smoke. It made her so sick... she finally quit KUDOS for mom.
After Daddy died, mom finally learned how to drive. I know she always had a drivers license thanks to DAD. She has a few bumps and bruises on her old, old car. The one Dad wanted so bad before he died. 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera...
