Marie is the daughter of Gregoire Blours and his wife Yarshin-Ma British Columbia Marriage Registrations She was born in British Columbia in 1840. Canada Census, 1881

Canadian Federal Census of 1881

Marie and her first husband and six of their children are noticed on 4 April 1881, in the Canadian Federal Census of that year. It is probably her mother, Catherine Yaratshenma, and two of her siblings, Martin and Charlie, who were also living in the same household [Canada Census, 1881, index, FamilySearch] https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MV63-W44

Indian Industrial School at Kamloops

Marie gave up her right to hold 160 acres of land which she inherited from Abraham Larue so that the Industrial School proposed for the Kamloops Indian Reserve could go ahead. She received $165 in compensation for the improvents which had been made on the land. This is confirmed by a letter dated 29 March 1889, sent from the Indian Office to the Superintendent General: "I have the honor to enclose vouchers in duplicate for the sum of $165.00 being amount paid to Mary Hli-hleh-Kan for her improvements on the site of the proposed Industrial School at Kamloops as per cheque No. 1173 received under cover of your communication of the 2nd instant" [Federal Court, Trial Division, Collier J., 18 June 1976: Leonard et al. v.
