About Marion Evelyn Taylor

RUSSELL L. TAYLOR EVELYN TAYLOR Anchorage Daily News February 18, 2000

Former Anchorage resident Evelyn Taylor, 85, died Oct. 2, 1999, of a heart attack at her home in Sequim, Wash. Her husband of 45 years, Russell L. Taylor, 84, died Jan. 27, 2000, after a series of illnesses.

Mrs. Taylor was born Jan. 24, 1914, in Boise, Idaho, to Alfred and Martha (Venable) Armitage. Mr. Taylor was born March 14, 1915, in Wichita, Kan., to James and Mabel (Metzer) Taylor. The couple met here in 1951 when both were employed by Universal Food Services. They married in 1954 in Wichita and returned to Anchorage. Mr. Taylor worked for Walter Hickel as an accountant, then for the Airports Division of the Federal Aviation Administration. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on a destroyer in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Elks and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a former president and lifetime member of the Alaska Art Guild and the Sequim Art Guild. He received honors for his landscape paintings from his peers and art show juries. Mrs. Taylor worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and retired as a chief purchasing officer. She enjoyed bridge, knitting and crocheting. A friend wrote: And how she loved to fish. She kept wishing for one more fishing trip to Alaska. Both were avid boaters, snowmobilers and world travelers to Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, the South Pacific and North America. The couple retired to Sequim in 1977.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by her daughter, Thelma Sullock of Sequim; sister, Mary Jane Evans of Boise; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Mr. Taylor is survived by his brother, James; and a niece, both of Wichita. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor were buried in the family plot in Boise.
