MARIOTT STEWART (aka MARION STEWART)

According Nisbet's Heraldry, Mary Stewart, the first wife of Sir Colin Campbell of Glenorchy, was the daughter of Duncan, Earl of Lennox. John McGregor disagreed and correctly identified her as Mariott Stewart, daughter of Waler Stewart of Albany, son of Isobel, Duchess of Albany and Countess of Lennox. The Scots Peerage II: 176

Death

A date of death has not been identified for Mariott Stewart, here treated. She was alive on 4 October 1440 NRS: GD112/25/2 but she died before 15 March 1448-49, by which date her widowed husband was already married for the second time to Janet Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, lord of Lorn. 4 October 1440: Charter by Isabella, duchess of Albany, countess of Levenax, Inchedavanow, to Colin Campbell, kt, laird of Glenurchay, by reason of his marriage to Marion Stewart, daughter of deceased Walter Stewart of Albany, granter's son, of lands of Feorlyng More and Feorlyng Natara of Kangerlouch, and lands of Mame Beg and Mame More in granter's earldom of Levenax, sheriffdom of Dumbertane, to be held by said Colin and Marion and their legitimate heirs, whom failing, to Andrew Stewart of Albany, kt, granter's grandson, son of said deceased Walter, with proviso that all thieves convicted there are to be hanged on the duchess's gallows at Faslane.
