https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1957/04/17/96951632.h...

Marjorie Fleming married Wilton Lloyd-Smith. He was the brother of Van Sanford Merle-Smith. They worked together to rename themselves to reduce confusion over the name Smith.

She married Wilton in 1917 as he was about to leave for duty in France as a lieutenant in the Army. Wilton became a Captain in the artillery. Nettie Fowler McCormick attended the wedding.

Marjorie and her cousin Kate continued a close relationship throughout their lives. They shared family and business ventures and various civil actions as necessary to defend their rights and property. Some examples follow below.

Kangas-Jacobsen Dairy in Minnesota vs Kate and Marjorie...This action was brought to recover damages alleged to have occurred when land on which plaintiff had erected a creamery building subsided. The appeal being from an order overruling a demurrer, we must look to the pleadings for the facts. Plaintiff's complaint alleges that on September 29, 1939, defendants Kate Fowler Merle-Smith and Marjorie Fleming Lloyd-Smith, referred to hereinafter for clarity and brevity as the Smith defendants, were the owners of certain land in St. Louis county.

another court case...In 1932 the above taxpayer, Marjorie Fleming Lloyd-Smith, transferred to Jorwil Corporation certain assets belonging to her which had a cost basis of ...

Donation to CalTech for a building...The estimated cost was $200,000. Two donors, Miss Kate Fowler Merle Smith and her niece Marjorie Fleming Wilton Lloyd-Smith, promised $25,000 each, but even this generous donation was insufficient to complete the complex.
