Martha Wayles Harrison

Martha Wayles Skipwith was born April 13, 1786 and died April, 1827. She was buried in the Harrison Cemetery, Amelia County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Henry Skipwith and Anne Wayles. She married Edmond Harrison (1764-1826). They were the parents of two known children.

A letter written in 1807 from a Martha Harrison still exists. It was written to Thomas Randolph about dances and jubilees, and was dated May 15, 1807. The author Martha Harrison may be Martha Wayles Skipwith Harrison who was married to Edmund Harrison and lived in "Genito" in Amelia County, Virginia. The festivities may be part of the 1807 Jamestown celebrations. Martha's sister Mary married Thomas Randolph, lending credence to the theory that the letter was indeed written by this Martha Harrison.
