Birth: 1815 Tennessee, USA Death: Mar. 29, 1839 Nauvoo Hancock County Illinois, USA

Martha Jane Bunch was the daughter of William D. Bunch, Sr. and Elizabeth Buggs. She was likely born in Tennessee, but removed with her family to Crittenden County, Arkansas by 1827. She married her neighbor, William Thomas Jefferson Brandon, Sr. (usually known as Thomas or Thomas J.), in about 1832. The 1830 Crittenden, Arkansas census shows Thomas Brandon, a single man, living only a few households down from William D. Bunch, Sr. Martha is named as an heir to her father, William, in his will dated July 1832. Martha and Thomas lived in the part of Crittenden County that became Mississippi County in 1833. Thomas can be seen on the tax records of Mississippi County in 1837 along with Martha's brother, Martin W. Bunch. At some point Thomas and Martha went to New Orleans, Lousiana. Some claim Martha died there in 1839, but the Nauvoo, Illinois burial records state that she died in 1839 and was buried in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois. Thomas J. Brandon can be seen on the tax rolls of Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois in 1842. He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the Mormon Chruch in 1842. There is no record of Martha being baptized. In 1844 there is a record of Thomas Jefferson Brandon, a widower, being called on a mission to Alabama, so it is certain that Martha died sometime before 1844. Thomas and Martha were the parents of John M. Brandon and Sarah Martha Jane Brandon.
