Martha was known as a very brave lady. Her husband died shortly after imigrating to Rhodesia and she returned to the Cape to collect their son Rex on her own.
During the Matabele wars the Ferrerias were brave fighters and Cecil John Rhodes wrote "One Ferreria is worth more to me than an entire regiment of soldiers."
Martha lived with her son Gert on Glenconner farm and remarried Willie Steines.
