Northumberland County Record Book 1652 -1658: ©Peter's Row - 2002 [page 62 R] Mrs. Morris her deposition. Martha Morris aged 46 years or there abouts sworn and examined saith whereas this depondent was appointed by the [-] peruse the body of Jane Owen of her complaint of [-] and beating of her the said Jane, I do find the said Jane [-] about twelve places on her body beaten black and blue and [-]this depondent saith not. Martha Morris her mark 4th [-] 1655.

——— Ye Kettle above named to be delivd: at ye time of ye sd: MARTHA's decease. KNOW ALL MEN by these p:sents yt: I THO: LANE doe hereby bind my selfe in penalty & forfeitum of Ten thousand pounds of good Tob: in cask yt: by reason or cause of MARIAGE vth: ye sd: MARTHA MORRIS, wthin menconed, I will not at any time either by my selfe or my heyres or any other p:sons for me or them clayme or demand any of ye p:missed goods or chattells wth :in given unto her Son, ANTONY MORRIS & his heyres, Firs, &c., Witness in yt: behalfe entered or p:secute any suit or suits at Law but at all times to stand to & allow of ye same as valid & authentique; Witness my hand & sealeye 15 July 1665 Witnesse NICH: PARRIS THO: LANE ye Seale JOHN HANEY 6th 7br: 1665, Recordatur


1674-1677 Order Book Northumberland Co Va; Antient Press: Pg 237 Northumberland County Court 18th of August 1675 HAYNIE's Comm of Admon upon LANE's Estate that whereas THOMAS LANE some time ago hath dyed in Delaware Bay [or poynts adjacent] and his Wife surviving him the Thirds of his Estate became her legall right and she departing this life about ye 12th of April last ye right of her Estate (ye aforesaid Thirds] personall revolved unto her Children of which your Petitioner's Wife is one and whereas your Petitioner hath a present opportunity to send to ye Delaware Bay in quest of this Estate there where his Widdowes Dower must be had [or noe where] your Petitioner therefore humbly prayes Order of Administration on ye Estate of THOMAS LANE and he shall pray &c. August ye 23d 1675. This Petition is granted giving security according to Law ST. LEGER CODD, WILLIAM PRESLY PETER PRESLY, THOMAS MATTHEW - JOHN HAYNIE and JOHN HUGHLETT doe oblige themselves in the penall sume of forty thousand pounds of tobacco yt JOHN HAYNIE duly administer according to Law
