About Martha Morris

Martha G. Morris, wife of the late John Morris, was born in Christian County, KY, November 26, 1819, and died at her home in Sulphur, KY, July 26, 1895. Her maiden name was Gilmore. Coming to Henry County in her girlhood, she was there married to the late John Morris in 1836, which happy and blessed union was terminated April 7, 1891, by the death of her husband after a continuation of 55 years. Sister Morris professed religion and was baptized at New Castle in 1843. Was long a member at Hillsboro, and at her death a member at Sulphur, having been a member for over fifty years.

Sister Morris leaves behind her nine living children – two sons and seven daughters – all professors of religion. Mary J. Campbell and Kate Scott, Campbellsburg, William G. Morris, Louisville, Annie E. Abbott, Cora Hoagland and Florence Shaw, all of Sulphur, John E. Morris, New Castle and Martha A. and Alice S. McGuire, Columbia, MO, are the children of this lamented mother.

Impressive and touching funeral services were held at the Sulphur Baptist Church by her old pastor, W. W. Foree, in the presence of her descendants and a large gathering of friends, after which her remains were interred by the side of her husband in the Sulphur Cemetery.
