About Martha Rowe
notes
•HIST: Anthony (2) (s/o Anthony 1), Portsmouth, weaver, deposed in 1731 about Scarborough matters of 40 years before. In 1697 he was the grantee of an extraordinary deed by which Nathan Knight and wife Mary (Westbrook) conveyed 13 acres originally granted to Anthony Ellins, Mary's brother Col. Thomas Westbrook signing it though not named as a grantor and the whole being acknowledged by the grantee, A. R. and his wife Martha. This may be only stupid conveyancing, but it provides a suggestion that Martha Row was born a Westbrook. Propinquity and a deed from John Rowe to John Brewster, on the other hand, have raised a conjecture that Martha was a Brewster (1). His 2d. wife was definitely widow Esther (Manson 5) (Cross)
