Martha married William Strickland [son of William Strickland and Olive] before August 1723 when a deed of Barnaby McKinnie to Joseph Joyner indicated that the land had been devised by William Brown to his daughter Martha, the wife of William Strickland. Joseph Joyner was a great-uncle of Pheraby Joyner, the second wife of John Moore “the Hatter.”

Mrs. Martha Brown Strickland’s brother-in-law Richard Jackson witnessed in February 1726 when she and her husband William Strickland deeded to Barnaby McKinnie, Jr. 100 acres devised to her by her father William Brown. See Bertie Deed Book # B, pp. 8, 206.
