Martha Owsley Williams was the daughter of Thomas Owsley IV and his wife, Dinah. Her marriage bond to Ralph Williams was dated August 10, 1798 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. Martha and Ralph were living in Pulaski County, Kentucky in 1800 and Franklin County, Indiana in 1810. Ralph was affiliated as minister with the Ebenezer Methodist Episcopal Church in Franklin County. They migrated to Madison County, Indiana around 1835.
