About Marthinus Nel
Marthinus Nel "Tienie" (1975 - 2008)
Brief overview:
Tienie (33), along with his wife Nicolene (29) and children Zanell (2) and Nico (seven weeks) had on the 2nd July 2008, gone to look at cattle crazing at a stream. They stopped to assist two men. Police say one of them apparently fired a shot when Tienie leant out the window to ask if they needed help. Tienie ordered Nicolene to run, then Tienie was pulled out of the bakkie (Pick-up truck) and shot again. The killers then sped off in his truck. Police spokesperson Khabo Skhosana said that Nel's killers probably used a weapon they'd stolen during a robbery earlier in the day on the farm Brakspruit. Nicolene went back to where her husband was lying, and called their foreman to help. Tienie was taken to a farm shop near Brendan Village, where an ambulance was waiting for them. He died on the way to the hospital.
