Biography ==Martin Phillips was born around 1613 in England. He is the son of Nicholas Phillips and Abigail Sewell.<ref>Phillips Page 4 says it has not been discovered where Nicholas was born nor who his parents were, which presumably goes for Martin as well. However, "from records in America Nicholas is known to have had two brothers, Henry and Martin," but no records have been found for them in Wendover.</ref>
Martin emigrated to America sometime before he and his brothers, Nicholas and Henry, signed the covenant at Dedham in the Massachusetts Bay Colony on August 18, 1636.<ref>Chamberlain Dedham Town Records, 1: 20</ref> He was probably granted land then. Martin had three and a half acres adjoining that of his brother, Nicholas, and an acre of salt marsh.<ref>Chamberlain Weymouth Land Grants, 272, 282, 283.</ref> Their lands were in an area called "old Spain" on a creek that emptiedinto the Weymouth river. The creek eventually became known as Phillips Creek. John King and Joseph Shaw lived in the same area.<ref name=Phillips>Phillips Page 4</ref> It was reported that Martin never had any children.<ref name=Phillips />
