CHACHERE Marvin L. Chachere-Age 82, born in Mobile, Al., the son of Lancelot Chachere and Irene Faustina Chachere (predeceased) died in San Pablo, California, June 17, 2010. He spent his youth in Mobile as a student at Heart of Mary School where he played in the school band. His summers were spent on Faustina Beach, Mon Louis Island, a picnic and bathing beach founded in 1929 by his grandfather Gilbert Faustina. Marvin Chachere's career was unusually broad including faculty member Xavier University, New Orleans, Dean of International Studies, University of California, Berkeley Extension, professor of English at two universities in the Peoples Republic of China. He wrote and published memoirs, incisive critical commentary on politics, business, and public policy that reached readers in the United States and China. He is survived by his wife, Lu Xin, 7 children, 4 grand children and 1 great -grandchild. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, classmates and colleagues in Mobile, New Orleans, California, and China
