OBITUARY

MRS. MARY ADAMS

Mrs. Mary Adams nee Sale, died at her residence in Parke County, July 22, 1888 after an illness of a few days.

The deceased was born in Mercer county, Kentucky, November 29, 1812 to Stephen S. and Malinda Hedger Sale. She moved with her parents to Indiana in 1822 and settled on a farm near Jessup, now owned by Elias Adams. She was married to William Adams, April 8, 1830, who died January 25, 1881.

She was the oldest of a family of several children only two of whom are left. She was borne the trial of a pioneer life.

Of her eleven children, six have gone before. She leaves five children; four sons and one daughter; twenty-eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a large number of other relatives to mourn her loss, but our loss is her eternal gain. Her children are all married and living near her home, except, one son, Reuben, who lives in Sedgwick County, Kansas. A telegram was sent to him and he started immediately and reached herein time to meet the remains of his mother at the Friendly Grove Church where the funeral sermon was conducted by Rev. M. S. Yowel.

She united with the Friendly Grove church in 1871 being converted about 35 years before and has since lived a pious and an exemplary life.

She was a kind and affectionate mother and a good neighbor, also a successful business woman.

Her remains were interred in the Jessup cemetery (Adams, Forks by the Creek), July 24, followed by a large congregation of mourning relatives and friends.

"Sleep on dear mother and take thy rest, God called thee home – He thought it best."
