About Mary Ann Preston (Doss)

Not the daughter of Thomas Doss, I & Sarah Margaret Doss

In the Bedford County, Virginia Court Order book 6*82 dated October 1774 on the motion of Wiliam Mead he is granted letters of administration of the estate of Phillp Preston during the month of April...then Bedford County Deed book 7-10 page 495-496 28 March 1785...William Mead sold to Nathan Preston for the sum of 5 shillings. 138 acres of land...William Mead does forever grant land premisis reserving to said Nathan Preston's mother Mary Doss, use of said land for the use of said Mary Doss during her natural life.

From the above, we can see that Doss is NOT Mary's maiden name, but rather a subsequent married name after the death of Phillip Preston.
