About Mary Anne (McClusky) Quinn, Free Settler "England" 1841

James Quinn (senior)(died 1869) Wife Mary Ann McCluskey (born:1809 - died: 1894 aged 85) children Patrick(died 1850), Helen (Mrs Timothy Ryan), Jack, Mary (Mrs Robert Miller), Ellen (Mrs Kelly), Catherine (Kate-Mrs Jack Lloyd sen), Jane (Mrs Tom Lloyd sen), James (Jimmy), William, Mary Anne, Margaret (Mrs Patrick Quinn), Grace (Mrs Far- rell),

We, with children migrated to Australia on a ship called the "England" and arrived in Melbourne in July 1841 and went to live in Pascoe Vale on Moonee Ponds Creek. (RC says 1839). In 1844 we settled in Wallan on Kemp's Swamp and eventually by about 1850 we owned about 700 acres.

In 1863 I sold up at Wallan and with the £2,000 or so I got we took up the Glenmore run near Moyhu and about four miles above the Hedi station. (RC3139) Some saw me as a cattle-stealer who wanted to get away from the police into a quite part of the colony. They refused to believe that a man could succeed through hard work in Australia.
