Mary Williams Montgomery, only dau. of Rev. Giles Foster Montgomery and Emily Ruth Redington, b. Nov. 21, 1874 at Maras (now called Kahramanmaras), Turkey.
On May 20, 1909 near Stamford, Conn., Mary m. as his second wife, Gutzon Borglum (i.e., John Gutzon de la Mothe Borglum), the renowned creator-sculptor of Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. He was the s. of Jans Miller Haugaard Borglum, a Danish immigrant, and Christina Michelsen, b. Mar. 25, 1867 at St. Charles, Idaho. Gutzon d. Mar. 6, 1941 at Chicago, IL and is interred in a private crypt at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Glendale, CA. His widow Mary d. Aug. 16, 1955 at Corpus Christi, TX (TX Death Cert. #41005). She was interred next to her husband on Aug. 19, 1955.
Mary Williams (Montgomery) Borglum was a well educated woman, spoke and wrote multiple lanquages, and was the second woman to obtain a Ph.D. from the University of Berlin.

Short Beach, Conn., 1909, Gutzon Borglum (distinguished sculptor); one son: James Lincoln. Interested in child labor legislation. Author of: Told in the Gardens of Araby (with Izora Chandler). Mem. Deutsche Orient-Gesselschaft, Woman's University Club (N.Y. City). Congregationalism.
Mary and Gutzon had two children:
• i. James Lincoln de la Mothe Borglum, b. Apr. 9, 1912 at Stamford, Conn. and d. Jan. 27, 1986 at Corpus Christi, TX; he m. Mary Ann Thorton Ellsworth, b. Feb. 14, 1917 at San Antonio, TX and d. Aug. 15, 1985 at Harlingen, TX. Known simply as Lincoln Borglum, he was an artist and assisted his father in the creation of the Mount Rushmore monument in South Dakota. His father dying before Mount Rushmore was completed, Lincoln completed it.
• ii. Mary Ellis "Mel" Borglum, b. Mar. 25, 1916 at Atlanta, GA, d. Sept. 11, 2002 at Reno, Nevada; m. 1) David Vhay in 1939 and 2) Don Powers, both who predeceased her.
