Note: According to her death record, she was born in Nova Scotia. Her marriage to William, it states she was born in Roxbury, Boston, MA (more likely place of residence when she got married). 1881 Canada census has she was born in 1863 not 1873. Please note that Mary's father "Hugh" was still living in Sherbrooke, Guysborough County, NS in 1881 so it is unlikely that he had any children born in 1873 in Mass. I believe only his first 2 children were born in the USA.

Note: There are two Mary E McCaffrey in this family. Mary b. 1863 Nova Scotia d/o Hugh H Smith & Margaret Stearns married Bowman and McCaffrey and Mary E McCaffrey b. 1873/1874 d/o Wm McCaffrey & Catherine Sullivan married Simmons, O'Neil and Reed.

I found a John J. Bowman b. Aug. 26, 1886 in Manhattan, NY with parents down as John Bowman b. Canada and Mary Smith Bowman b. Canada. I suspect this is the same couple but no proof. Guessing the child died in infancy.
