About Mary A Carter
Information added 3 May 2015 by Ginnie Oldham taken from Linda Lamb Monticello's "Lamb Family Reunion 2013, booklet. Little is known about Mary A. Hopper wife of Benjamin T. Carter. Ben and their son William Henry are both buried at Ben Carter Cemetery and a double tombstone marks their resting place. Mary's burial place is still not certain. The youngest daughter of William C. and Elizabeth P. (Lamb) Hopper may be buried in Lamb Cemetery; however, it is more likely that she, too, is interred at Ben Carter in an unmarked grave.
Some speculation is that she may have died at the birth of son William Henry or soon after. Henry was said to have mental birth defects.
29 Apr 2020 updated death date from L. L. Monticelli's Ancestry.com family tree. According to that site Mary A. Hopper was born 1859 and died b/f 1900. So she may have 22 when she married Ben in 1881. In 1880 Bucksnort (Lewistown) KY she is listed as single in her father Wm. C. Hopper's household. -Go
