About Mary Coffin
The following article appeared in The Indianapolis Journal, September 21, 1902: DANVILLE, Indiana - September 20 -- Mrs. Barney Osborn, near Hadley, this county, while taking a last look at the remains of Mrs. Mary Coffin, dropped to the floor unconscious and died in a few minutes. A large concourse of friends had gathered for the funeral of Mrs. Coffin at the home of her cousin, William C. Stanley, and many were passing through the room viewing the remains. Among them was Mrs. Osborn, who while standing by the casket, fell to the floor.
The body of Mrs. Coffin was taken into the yard and a physician called. When he arrived a part of the crowd went to the church for the funeral and a part remained with Mrs. Osborn. Before the funeral was over Mrs. Osborn died. Her death was the result of heart disease.
Mrs. Coffin's death was likewise sudden. Her home was near Rainstown, this county, and she had gone to visit her cousin, Mr. Stanley. Thursday night she retired as usual, and about midnight aroused the family with her moans. She died in a short time. Her death was caused from the weakness of old age, being about seventy-five.
Daughter of Henry and Phoebe Stanley Hale
