"I remember Uncle Joe Colvin. My great grandmother, Mary AnnColvin,
lived with Uncle Joe and Aunt Ella in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. My mother, Jim
and I visited them. They had children born dead or soon after birth, but
none that lived. I couldn't stand Aunt Ella. She made Grandma stay
upstairs afraid she'd dirty her house. She sewed carpet rags."

"Henry Colvin's mother was Pennsylvania Dutch,a short, heavy set woman.
She couldn't read or write. (Many couldn't in those days--especially
women.) Her husband wanted to teach her, but she thoughtshe didn't have
time to study. (She regretted this in later life. She'd have me and my
sisters read things under pictures she'd looked at, when we'd goto see
her.) She was a good house wife and mother and did lots of work (women
had to in those days).
Their children, Henry, Bert, duplicates of their mother especially in
build, Joe and Katheryn tall and stately like their father (quite
aristocratic). They may have had other children. These I know of Joe,
we considered wealthy, lived in Ft. Wayne, and there is where we visited
their mother (my great grandmother) and she died there. Aunt Kate (as
mother called her) (Katherine Coolman) lived in California (well to do).
She visited us two different times and was planning to come again when
she had a stroke and soon passed away on April 27, 1959. She was 93
years, 6 months, a delightful and dignified lady. We loved her. She had
a daughter and son stillliving, I've never met."

(I wonder ifMary Ann Pyle had a sister named Mary. Nellie Malott found
a record of a Mary S. Pyle, born July 27, 1827, and died August 25, 1973
(1873?). Or this may have been some other relative. I wonder if this
was a twin sister of MaryAnn Pyle. If not, I think Mary Ann must have
been born June 27, 1827, instead of July 27, 1829.)
The following is a reference from the 1830 Indiana Censusindex:

According to chuch records Mary A. Colvin wife of John R., was a charter
member of the West Creighton Avenue Church (Disciples of Christ), having
joined the church in 1896. The church is at thecorner of Creighton and
Miner Streets, one block east of Broadway. They have no record of when
she left the church, but she was included in printed membership
directories in 1898 and 1905. They had two differant address for her:71
Wagner & 103 Spy Run. It seems that these addresses are on the old
numbering system.
According to the 1850 Indiana Federal Census Mary Ann was bornin Ohio

She is named in the
