Mary Louise (Phelps) Dingley, 85, a resident of Billings since 1983, died suddenly Sunday, April 8, 2007. She was born Aug. 11, 1921, at Greeley, Colo., the fourth child and only daughter of James Henry Sr. and Jessie Delana Jones Phelps.

She graduated from East High School, Salt Lake City, in 1939, and became a student nurse at St. Marks Hospital, Salt Lake City. This was not her first choice; her ambition was to be a physical education instructor. She was quite proficient in all sports, especially tennis, but her father had other ideas. She loved animals and knew them well.

She married Dana Coolidge Dingley at Las Vegas, Aug. 8, 1942. After the war, the couple moved to Farmington, Maine. The marriage was dissolved in 1979, and she moved to Billings. She worked for a number of years as a healthcare provider for Professional Nursing Pool.

Surviving are her daughter, Pamela Dingley Moore of Wilton, Maine; grandson Ivan (Vanessa) Moore of West Farmington, Maine; and granddaughter Megan (Jess) Crandall of Wilton; and two great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are her brothers, James Harvey (Clara) of Billings, William Robert (Barbara) of Lopez Island, Wash., Raymond Frank of Billings and Clyde Edward of Alexandria, Va.; along with several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, at Smith Downtown Chapel, 925 S. 27th St., with the Reverend D. James Fitzhugh, Billings First United Methodist Church, officiating. Remains will be interred at the Memorial Gardens of the Valley, Sandy, Utah.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society or the charity of one's choice.
