About Mary Flagg
Mary's father was a descendant of one of the largest, original land holders of Waltham, Massachusetts, Richard Gale.
"RICHARD GALE and brothers came from England via the West Indies to Massachusetts, and took up land in 1646 near Boston, then called Waltham. English shipping records show a Richard Gale sailed from England for "Barbadoes" on the "Ann and Elizabeth" on April 24, l635 when he was 16 years old A Richard Gale purchase land in "Watertowne", Mass in 1640.
The pre-revolutionary homestead of RICHARD GALE later became the home of 'War Govenor of Massachusetts' Govenor Ames. Some GALE'S were Loyalists, and others were not; the loyalists either during or just after the Revolution, left Massachusetts and went to Canada to Nova Scotia, where the crown granted them land. The family descended from Richard Gale, with connections to the Purney's, Gilbreth (or Gilbraith as it used to be spelled), and the Baker's. The GALE'S eventually moved back to Massachusetts.
