INJURIES FATAL TO MRS. GUERNSEY Wife of Well Known Piano Dealer Dies As Result of Automobile Accident
As the result of injuries sustained when she was struck by an automobile at North Irving Avenue and Linden Street Friday night, Mrs. Mary O. Guernsey, sixty-eight years old, wife of J. W. Guernsey, the well known piano dealer of this city, died, at the Hahnemann hospital Saturday night at 7 o'clock. In the accident Mrs. Guernsey sustained concussion of the brain.
The driver of the automobile that struck Mrs. Guernsey speeded away immediately after the accident and has not been apprehended as yet The police claim to have the license number and declare they will make an arrest within a short time. It is said that the automobile was either a five or seven passenger Locomobile. When Mrs. Guernsey was first removed to the hospital it was thought she suffered a fractured skull, but an operatlon revealed concussion of the brain. She rested fairly comfortably Saturday morning, but late in the afternoon a change for the worse was noticed.
Mrs. Guernsey was one of the best-known women In this city and valley. She lived here for the last forty-eight years, and during the years 1873, 1874 and 1875 she taught in the public schools of this city, when Prof. Joseph Rooney was superintendent of schools.
She was the daughter of Edwin E. Ives. She is survived by her husband, four daughters, Mrs. N. B. Spencer, of Honesdale; Mrs. John J. Roderick, of Allentown; Mrs. A. C. Curtis, of Glen Cove, L. I.; Miss Clara Guernsey, and one son, Edwin W. Guernsey, of Wilkes-Barre.
Four brothers also survive, Albert G. Ives, cashier of the First National bank; George H. Ives, Wilkes-Barre; Henry M. lves, Dalton, Pa., and Edwin W. Ives, New Jersey. . The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with short services at the home, 1410 Linden Street. Rev. U. W. Wellburn. D. D., pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church, will have charge or the services. Interment at Forest Hill Cemetery. The funeral will be private.
