Mary Jane Magee(Kerr)

Mary Jane Magee was born in Leslie Fife in Scotland she was the 4th child born to Alf & Jane. she was born premature and wasn't expected to live but they put her in a basket and placed her beside the fire and she survived and lived a a normal and happy life.

Mary Jane was supposed to have been named Doris but her father stopped off at the pub on his way to register and when he came out he couldn't remember the babies name so he put down his wife's name instead.

Mary Jane was called Dorrie by her family and it was in 1926 as she was emigrating to America that she was climbing the gangway to join the Cameronia , the ships officer called out Mary Jane Magee , Dorrie didn't respond untill her mother Jane told her "it's you he's calling," that she then was told the story of her birth name however until the day she died she always used the name of Dorrie.
