Mary Ann Stagg was born in Burbage, Wiltshire, England, on September 4, 1828, (christened on October 15) to parents Pidman Stagg (1783-1828) and Martha White Stagg (1784-1873).

Burbage records indicate she had children Emmanuel Stagg (b. April 18, 1847 comment says "single woman", d. unknown) and Henry Stagg (b. March 23, 1853 comment says "born in fornication", d. May 4, 1940; Find A Grave Memorial 133448) with George Sellwood.

She was married in about 1853 to William John Cox (1832-1860), with whom she had one child (Walter Cox; b. March 12, 1857, Andover, Hampshire, England; d. March 10, 1953, Provo, Utah; Find A Grave Memorial 89201589).

She married James Kimber (1828-1910) on September 14, 1861, in Burbage. Their children James (1862-1937), Annie Rebecca (1865-1952), Mary Jane (1867-1933), Edward Stephen (1868-1949), and Fredrick Charles (1871-1962), were born in Burbage. Mary Ann voyaged from Liverpool to New York with a Mormon group on the ship Wisconsin in 1883. Also listed on the passenger list are her husband James, sons Walter (listed as William?) Cox, and Edward Kimber, and daughter Mary Jane Kimber. Henry Stagg (and his wife and children) voyaged on the Wisconsin in 1885.

She died July 1, 1888, in Provo, Utah, and was buried at Provo City Cemetery (Block 4, Lot 100) on July 3, 1888. Her gravestone reads "Stick of Ephraim. Stick of Judah.", which refers to her Mormon faith. James died in 1910.
