Mary Smith was born [probably about 1735] in Upper Uwchlan, Chester County, Pennsylvania to John and Susanna Smith, according to page 15 of the "Record of the Smith Family" by Joseph Smith Harris. Upper Uwchlan is a township in West Virginia that today is a part of the unincorporated community called the village of Eagle, (see Wikipedia on Upper UWchlan Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.)

Page 513 of the "Maxwell history and genealogy, including the allied families. . ." by Florence Amelia Wilson Houston, Laura Anna Cowan Blaine, and Ella Dunn Mellette shows that Mary Smith was the daughter of John and Susan Smith who emigrated from Ireland in about 1720. On the same page it shows that Mary Smith was married to Alexander Lewis and that a daughter, Jane Lewis was born in 1767 who married Thomas Maxwell.

U.S. and International Marriage Records index made available through Ancestry.com show a Mary Smith, Female, Birth Place: PA, Birth Year: 1735, Spouse Name: Alexander Lewis, Spouse Birth Year: 1730 and Marriage Year: 1760.

Page 28 of the "Record of the Smith Family" by Joseph Smith Harris shows the 8 children of Mary Smith and Alexander Lewis: Susanna b. 1761 John b. 1763 Abraham b. 1765 Jane b. 1767 m. Thomas Maxwell in about 1785 Mary b. 1769 Alex Amith Lewis b. 1770 John and Ebenezer (twins) b. 1773

Page 15 of the "Record of the Smith Family" previously mentioned states that Mary (Smith) Lewis died on Aug 11, 1799 at Weston, [then Harris County now Lewis County], W. Virginia. Page 513 of the "Maxwell history and genealogy, including the allied families. . . ", (previously mentioned), shows her burial location as Lost Creek, [Harrison County], West Virginia where her husband was also buried some 14 years and 4 months later. The town of Weston is only 14 miles from the town of Lost Creek, so it is possible that Mary (Smith) Lewis died in Weston and was buried at Lost Creek.

The Pastor at this church cemetery confirmed for us that my 6th great grandparents, Alexander & Mary Lewis, were indeed buried here.
