About Mary (Marianne) deMoville (Winston)
ID: I3516
Name: Mary Ann Winston 1
Sex: F
Birth: 9 OCT 1802 in Hanover Co. Virginia 1
Death: 9 OCT 1873 in Nashville, Tennessee
Burial: City Cemetery, Nashville
Note:
From one of the wealthiest families in Richmond, VA. Mary Ann and her
husband Peter Demoville had a 1,000 acre estate on the James River and
entertained in manorial style. They had the finest hounds in the region
and many were the guests they entertained during the social and hunting
season.
Later, financial misfortune overtook them. Many of their slaves were
seized and sold, to meet plantation debts; and eventually, they, their
nine children & their remaining slaves left Virginia bound for Arkansas.
They got no further than Nashville, Tennessee, for there Peter DeMoville
died. There, Mary Ann remained and raised her young family there.
