About Mary Williams
Mary and husband Thomas ran a contracting business supplying uniforms to the Royal Navy. In 1796 Thomas invested in the new lace-making industry and the family moved to Nottingham. Thomas died of typhoid fever in 1804. Mary sold the business and started a boarding establishment training young women as governesses. Mary had three brothers, all navel officers serving under Horatio Nelson.
