About Mary Obedience Norman

Mary Obedience Johnson Norman ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Obedience Johnson Norman departed this life on February 13, 2015. She was born to Nash and Mary Susan (Cowan) Johnson on March 4, 1929, in Rose Hill, NC. She attended High Point College where she met and subsequently married Warren Norman. They lived their entire married life in Rock Hill, SC. Mary later returned to college, earning her degree in Education from Winthrop College. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and a brother, Bizzell David Johnson. Left to cherish her memory and strive to emulate her life are her children: M. Susan Norman Duncan of Woodstock, GA; Ralph W. Norman, Jr. and Elaine, of Rock Hill; Carol Nash Norman Hare and Charlie of Virginia Beach, VA.; and David F. Norman and Laurie, also of Rock Hill. "Mimi" is also survived by ten grandchildren: Will Duncan, Josh Duncan and Matt Duncan, of Woodstock, Georgia; Warren Norman III and his wife, Chrissi, of Rock Hill; Caroline Norman Williamson and her husband, Eric, of Birmingham, AL; Anne Norman Beckham and her husband, Jon, of Rock Hill; Mary Catherine Norman McAlinden and her husband, Bryan, of Rock Hill; Taylor Norman, of Charlotte, NC; Lane Norman and Madison Norman, both of Rock Hill. She has thirteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are her brother, E. Marvin Johnson; two sisters, Joy Johnson Davis and Geraldine Johnson Cashwell; two sisters-in-law, Crystal W. Johnson and Edith Norman Deviney; and former son-in-law, Jerald Duncan. Mary was active in Woodland United Methodist Church and Bible Study Fellowship for many years. She was quick to offer an encouraging word, an ear to listen and a pound cake to sweeten the lives of those around her. She and her amazing smile will be sorely missed by her family and friends. During her later years, Mary and her family were blessed by the support of so many while she battled dementia and Alzheimer's. Special thanks for their tender care go to Mary Graham and the ladies from Home Bridge Community Home Service: Amanda Doyle, Terri Kern, Regina Hough, Utopia Ward, and Stacy Youngblood. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 16, 2015 at 11:00 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Mike Honeycutt, officiating. A private family burial will be held prior to the service.
